Future of the University

I have read an article called “What Will the University of The Future Look Like”. This article expressed some interesting points about the future of the university.

Firstly, blending traditional and non-traditional teaching methods will become the norm. The academic world is filled with rapid technology over the last two decades. With the support of advanced technology and the burst of COVID-19, blending traditional and non-traditional teaching methods thrive. According to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, an estimated 120 million people will be in higher education by 2030, with 2.3 million of those studying overseas. In this case, universities would offer a wide range of degree programs than they did traditionally, enabling students to study at their own time and pace. For students who have to balance their family life and career, these teaching methods will be of importance.

Secondly, student-focused learning will be essential. In the future, maybe more universities will switch the focus from the teacher to the students. Students will be allowed to take control of their own education by choosing their own modules and mode of learning on campus or online. Because of this, students will be more active in their own learning and be able to develop technical and transferable skills.

Advanced technologies enable the blending of traditional and non-traditional teaching methods to be true. Maybe one day the tuition fee will be lower than the one now, which will make it possible for the students who intend to go to university but have financial pressure. And I really hope that one day students can receive higher education without worrying about the money.
